Emmylou Harris was born on 2 April 1947 kl.12.10 the East End Memorial Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.
Her father Walter Rutland "Bucky" Harris, was an officer in the U.S. Navy, and her mother Eugenia (Murchison) Harris were housewives. Harris has an older brother, Walter Harris Jr. Rutland.
Childhood was spent in Greensboro, North Carolina and Woodbridge, Virginia. The age of 16 she received her first guitar, a Kay obtained. It was a birthday gift from his grandfather.
